The South Camden Theatre Company, a nonprofit professional theatre organization located in Camden, New Jersey announces its fifth season for 2009 - 2010.
Producing Artistic Director Joseph M. Paprzycki states, "As we await the completion of our new home at the Waterfront South Theatre we are pleased to continue bringing exciting theatre to the region in this our fifth season. We will be opening this fall on October 30th with three special performances of "Slave Narratives Revisited: A Celebration of Freedom". This exciting play written by Ed Shockley and starring the playwright and director Lary Moten takes us on a journey of oppression and freedom that spans from the time of slavery to today. Opening on February 12th we will present a full three week schedule of Bruce Graham's "Belmont Avenue Social Club" directed by Ray Croce. Set in a Philadelphia Democratic club, this play about white male privilege, power and betrayal blends humor and inspired wisdom. We will close the new season with my play "Last Rites" directed by Christopher Schimpf as we christen the new Waterfront South Theatre with the play that inspired its birth."
The South Camden Theatre Company has been staging productions for five years in the basement of Sacred Heart Church and plans to move its performances across the street into the new 99-seat Waterfront South Theatre in 2010. Located at the corner of 4th and Jasper Streets in Camden, New Jersey, the new building is currently under construction at the site of the former bar named Walt’s Cafe, an establishment previously owned by Paprzycki's grandparents and the setting for his first play and forthcoming book, "Last Rites".
