Superbreak, the short break specialist, has reported a growing trend of travelling by train to London to enjoy a short break.

In the last six months bookings to London that include rail travel from stations in the UK have grown by over 53% compared to the same period in 2008. Superbreak attributes much of this growth to three main factors - competitive prices, environmental concern and the high cost of parking in the Capital.

The short break operator reports that prices for rail travel are currently excellent with many of the main rail operators offering special deals when booking rail travel that includes a stay at a number of London hotels. Most leisure travellers usually journey outside peak periods which enable them to be more flexible and take advantage of off-peak fares. To clearly demonstrate the value to its customers, Superbreak's website offers a dedicated rail breaks section which shows how much it is possible to save against open return fares and also the average cost of petrol if the route was driven.

Another key factor contributing to the rise in rail travel according to the report from Superbreak is that more and more people now consider the environment when they travel. Leaving the car at home and taking the train is seen as a more environmentally friendly option, especially for those coming longer distances to London for a cheap break. Finally, Superbreak believes that people outside London understand that it is not only expensive to park in London but there is also the possibility that drivers may incur the congestion charge.

Ray Jones, Marketing Director at Superbreak commented: "53% growth in short breaks to London that include rail travel clearly shows that people around the UK are increasingly leaving the car at home. With ever fluctuating petrol prices, the train is a much more viable option these days. "
