Announcing the 2006 The Black Book of Outsourcing Survey of 872 Outsourcing Vendors in 63 countries
[ClickPress, Wed Jul 12 2006] Bringing impartial evaluation of outsourcing providers to buyers, job seekers, clients and competitor vendors for the second year, “Outsourcing’s 50 Best Managed Companies” was announced today, a collaboration between Sourcing Magazine and The Black Book of Outsourcing. The internationally recognized ranking of sourcing leadership is noted for its nonbiased, independent ranking criteria differentiated by being the only survey ranked by the actual customers, contractors and employees of nearly 900 outsourcing companies in over 60 countries.
METHODOLOGY: HOW THE TOP 50 WERE MEASURED
The Black Book of Outsourcing 2006 survey on superior management practices and leadership outcomes was distributed electronically to customers, employees, buyers, contractors and users worldwide in early 2006. In January surveys were sent to 70,000 individuals in corporations, businesses, organizations and government agencies who use, who offer and who are employed in outsourcing services. The survey was also available on several websites and circulated at industry events. The survey consisted of 26 questions on leadership impact, influence, management performance, client satisfaction, employee satisfaction and organizational excellence. 18 optional questions which focused on innovation, growth, internal management practices and global results were tested for future surveys.
A total of 12,755 qualified outsourcing purchasers/users and 3,340 outsourcing corporate employees voted on the survey. Of the employee respondents, 18.3% were management or supervisory level, 81.7% were non-management.
SURVEY IMPROVEMENTS IN 2006
Each year this list is refined and improved which is vital to successful measurement of outsourcing’s emerging and established vendor organizations.
To thoroughly evaluate these companies in their correct contexts, this year, we required companies in the Top 50 to have demonstrated consistent strength in all four survey areas, as a national diversity leader cannot be deficient in any of the core components. We also changed the weightings given to the four areas we measure—human capital performance, CEO commitment, corporate direction, and leadership impact. It clearly is easier to obtain data on human capital, so the survey always has had far more questions in this area. In past surveys, therefore, this sector counted considerably more than the other three, just by virtue of having more responses. In our continuous, impartial assessment of outsourcing management, however, we have found that CEO commitment is the most crucial area at this time in the industry’s growth. Without a strong diversity champion at the top of a company, no “best managed” status or management improvement initiative can have long-term success. Therefore, we weighted the questions to give more emphasis to CEO commitment, followed by human capital performance, corporate direction, and leadership impact.
Additionally, throughout the survey, we added questions designed to measure satisfaction of clients, customers, users and buyers and apply these outcomes directly to the contribution of vendor company management a questionnaire developed the Brown-Wilson Group, an outsourcing management consulting firm. Ranked companies were rated on a 100-point scale, based on responses from the customer and employee surveys. The Brown-Wilson Group does not choose or influence the rankings. To ensure the integrity of the results, no application fees, fees-for-placement, advertising requirements, corporation input or financial arrangements by the vendors evaluated are associated with this survey.
