LaGroceria restaurant in Central Square, Cambridge was the choice venue for an episode of MTV’s "MADE" starring local boy and restaurant patron Keith Sidle, who was "MADE" into a graceful ballroom dancer. Sidle recently won the Tango competition.
Watch MTV’s "MADE" on November 6, 2006 at 10 p.m., as Sidle’s story plays out in Boston diners’ favorite restaurant, LaGroceria at 853 Main Street in Cambridge.
"MADE" is a reality show that offers one willing candidate a chance to chase their dream and make themselves over. Sidle, a burly 17 year-old outdoorsman, was on a mission to transform his life to show his sensitive side by being "MADE" into a dancer.
Sidle and his partner Ashley were in a tango competition with nine other couples on Saturday, October 14th. After making it to the final five, the remaining couples had to compete again in two "dance offs" as the scores were so close. Sidle and his partner won First Place.
"The Tango is tough. We’re all very proud of Keith and his accomplishments," explained LaGroceria owner Franco Mastromauro.
Karen K. Sidle noted about her son, "I found it very stressful, but was totally awed because I never saw his dance routine. He and his partner, Ashley, did a beautiful job."
Sidle is a big fan of LaGroceria’s innovative cuisine. Mastromauro is contemplating the creation of a new dish, aptly named the "Sidle Tango" and served as one of their specials in November.
He noted, "It’ll have some snap to it."
MTV was looking for an established neighborhood restaurant and the contemporary, elegant atmosphere of LaGroceria fine dining establishment offered the perfect backdrop for one of Sidle’s key scenes.
LaGroceria is "Love on a plate…a very large plate."
Established in 1971 by Franco Mastromauro and his two sons, Frank and Charles, as a small breakfast and sandwich shop, LaGroceria has grown to become a nationally recognized Mediterranean restaurant rated as "Overall Best Restaurant" by Gourmet Magazine, Zagat and Fodors. LaGroceria is one of the first of many independently owned and authentic ethnic restaurants that make Central Square a vibrant and unique community and a destination for diners seeking exceptional food and family hospitality.
