Located at the front of the hotel, the Card Room is an additional 900 square feet of function space with natural light overlooking Main Street that will be used to host meetings, cocktail receptions and other food or beverage events. The new room, formerly Twigs Florist, adds to the hotel’s existing seven other facilities that include two grand ballrooms, four meeting rooms and Spoonbread Restaurant.
Its unique name was coined by Charles Chamberlain, Executive Vice President of Corporate Banking at Carolina First. The moniker pays tribute to Greenville’s rich history in the textile industry. The hotel was originally built in 1924 to provide rooms for visitors to Greenville’s annual Southern Textile Exposition. The term "carding" refers to a room located within textile mills where fibers were processed by hand and later, by machine to break up clumps of fiber and align them so that they are parallel to one another.
Tim Paulus, Director of Sales and Marketing at the hotel said, "This is a great addition for us. We’ve added more function space for our guests and its prime, Main Street location is a great selling component."
