Arab Film Stars Descend on DIFF
This year’s Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) will be a who’s who of directors, producers, and stars of cinema from around the Arab world.
[ClickPress, Fri Dec 08 2006] This year’s Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) will be a who’s who of directors, producers, and stars of cinema from around the Arab world.
Abdulhamid Juma, DIFF’s Chairman, said, “This is their festival. At DIFF, more than any other international festival, we actively promote and stimulate Arab cinema. Our guests from around the Arab world will blend with Bollywood and Hollywood representatives as well as European industry figures, creating new opportunities for fruitful partnerships that can raise the prominence of Arab film and artists around the world.”
From Egypt, long the mainstay of Arab cinema, DIFF will host Ahmed Helmi, veteran actor Mahmoud Abdul Aziz, comedian Ahmed Bider, and actor/producer (Control Room, 2004) Hani Salama, who will promote his new film, Justified Cheating, in its World Premiere.
Egyptian female stars on the red carpet will be: Mona Zaki, Hind Sabri, who is originally from Tunisia but starred in the Egyptian hit film The Yacoubean Building; and Hanan Turk, who will promote her new film, Cut and Paste. Laila Elowi, a jury member for the Muhr Awards for Excellence in Arab Cinema, and the gorgeous Mervat Amine will also shine.
Celebrity guests from the GCC will include a slate of veteran actors who have shared their talents in film, television and theatre: from the UAE, Huda al Khateeb, who starred in two Ramadan series in 2006, and Ahmed al Jasmi, a prominent face in the UAE television scene.
From Kuwait, DIFF will see Abdul Hussain Adbulredha, of the recent Habl al Mawadeh; the wonderful Hayat al Fahad, fresh from her recent efforts in the Ramadan special Al Ferya, along with co-star Mona Shaddad; Mohammed al Mansour and Saad al Faraj, who have the distinction of appearing in the first-ever Kuwaiti film, Cruel Sea; veteran comedian Ghanem al Saleh of Bye Bye London stage fame; and from Qatar, theatre great Ghanem al Salaifi and the ever-controversial Abdul Aziz al Jassim.
