DIFF Announces Gold Sponsors for 2006 Festival

Leading companies have agreed to be “Gold Sponsors” for the high-profile event

[ClickPress, Fri Dec 08 2006] The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today announced the leading companies that have agreed to be “Gold Sponsors” for the high-profile event, which will run from December 10-17, 2006.

Al Bayan, Infiniti, National Bank of Dubai and Showtime have all pledged their support to the festival, which has branded itself the champion of film in the Arab world.

Abdulhamid Juma, Chairman, DIFF, said, “the involvement of these companies stresses that DIFF is rooted in Dubai’s cultural and economic environment at the same time as being international in outlook. Our event incorporates and celebrates diverse talent and creativity, and with our combined efforts, the Arab filmmaking talent that DIFF nurtures will be able to depict our unique society here for the world.”

Mr. Ahmed Al Hammadi, General Manager of Al Bayan newspaper, stated, “DIFF is a cultural investment that makes sense both for us at Al Bayan and for the emirate. The National Bank of Dubai has been a festival sponsor since DIFF’s inception in 2004; Walid El Masri, Head of Corporate Communications, expanded on the bank’s involvement: “We are the oldest national banking institution, and our firm commitment is to protect our valued traditions while embracing the best in contemporary practises. What we find most important about the festival, then, is DIFF’s dedication to promoting Emirati filmmakers. Azhar Malik, VP Marketing of Showtime Arabia, which is carrying DIFF footage on a special ‘DIFF TV’ channel from 15 November to 31 December, said, “We look forward to a time when we are able to show more programming from the Middle East. DIFF is spearheading that movement, and we are completely behind it --- we look forward to seeing Emirati artists profiled alongside Hollywood blockbusters auteurs.”.

The third run of DIFF will be held from December 10 to 17, 2006, when some of the brightest stars of Arab, American, European and Asian cinema will fill the Red Carpet at the Madinat Jumeirah. The eight star-studded days will feature gala parties, screenings, panel discussions and award ceremonies.
