A variety of flying experiences are available year-round, and visitors can take advantage of any one of them with just a bit of preparation.
Experienced flyers will find a dedicated group of fellow enthusiasts at the Chiang Mai Flying Club. Established in 1998, the club has grown to attract more than 300 members. The club maintains four four-seater aircraft including three C172’s and a Piper Arrow. Though these are privately owned, they can be made available for hire by qualified club members.
For novice flyers, the Chiang Mai Flying Club has two Cessna 150/2’s available for basic flight training, and two Diamond DA20 Katanas for basic and advanced training, cross country flying, and instrument flying.
For those who prefer a more leisurely adventure, Chiang Mai offers several hot air balloon tours that give visitors spectacular views of the stunning Thai countryside. Floating along at heights that typically range from 500 to 2000 feet, balloon tours can bring tourists on a relaxing, gentle ride over such impressive areas as the Khao Yai National Park.
Lek Boonlert, head of marketing for DirectRooms.com, encourages travellers to find hotels in Chiang Mai that are in close proximity to their desired flying adventures.
"Cutting down the travel time between your hotel and the activity site will ensure you’ll be able to take your time and enjoy your flying experience," Boonlert said.
