Vampires and other monsters from Asian filmmakers as well as love stories from Bollywood will thrill and chill the youthful audiences at the Hong Kong International Film Festival held this summer between 17 August and 13 September.

More than 30 films will be screened, watched by more than 13,000 film buffs and movie makers over the month long festival, which focuses on the trendiest titles from alternative directors world wide. Last year’s festival featured titles such as ‘Instant Swamp’ and ‘Vampire Girl versus Frankenstein Girl’ with screenings of both selling out in a flash.

The film festival is a chance to see movies that never make it to the commercial screen, but which are the best of the often highly awarded bunch. The festival draws tens of thousands of cinephiles to the crowded city, with rooms in Hong Kong hotels at a premium.

Movie tickets are available at URBTIX for around $60 and, according to DirectRooms.com, crowds of tourists arrive in summer, with rooms in mid to upper range hotels at a premium. For the film festival dates, booking online is the best way to make sure that what you want is what you get. Movie tickets are available at URBTIX for around $60.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com, says, "Hong Kong is a major tourist destination due to its many attractions, adding that booking your hotel well in advance is essential."
