Arlington, TX - July 26, 2005 - Alt-N Technologies (www.altn.com), a global leader in secure email, collaboration and fax servers for the Windows platform, today announced the release of MDaemon 8.1, the first Windows-based email server to deploy the DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) security feature.

"DKIM is the future for cryptographic authentication of electronic mail," said Arvel Hathcock, founder and chief executive of Alt-N Technologies, developers of MDaemon. "MDaemon 8.1 underscores our continued commitment to bringing state-of-the-art email security and spam-fighting capabilities to our mail server customers."

DKIM is a proposed Internet standard designed to help prove and protect message sender identity and the integrity of the messages they convey. It is currently under review by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). DKIM has grown from the combined efforts of numerous Internet enterprises, including Alt-N Technologies, America Online, Brandenburg Internetworking, Cisco Systems, EarthLink, IBM, Microsoft, PGP Corporation, Sendmail, StrongMail Systems, Tumbleweed, VeriSign and Yahoo!.

MDaemon 8.10, a DKIM capable version of Alt-N's popular email server, is a secure, turn-key mail server solution. It can also serve as a secure "front-door" to an existing email system, such as Microsoft Exchange, thereby bringing SPF, DomainKeys, and DKIM capabilities where it may not have previously existed.

Alt-N has published a white paper on DKIM and its implementation in MDaemon. The DKIM white paper is available for download from http://www.altn.com/support/white_papers.asp.

In addition to DKIM, MDaemon 8.1 will include support for "Greylisting", a relatively new spam fighting technique which involves deferring the initial acceptance of a new mail message from unknown senders and tells the sending email server to "try again later". When the sending server tries a second time - which most spam sources will not do - MDaemon will accept it. Exception options and white lists can exempt trusted senders from greylist processing. By leveraging SPF, MDaemon removes some of the core concerns that have plagued other greylisting implementations in the past.

MDaemon 8.1 builds on the groupware, security and administrative improvements made available with MDaemon 8.0. MDaemon now includes free groupware functions, including shared calendars, contacts and task lists. It also continues to lead the industry in email security, professional fine-tuning and beginner ease of use.

MDaemon 8.1 is accessible electronically at http://www.altn.com/download/default.asp.
