Racing in Le Tour de Langkawi will be some of Malaysia’s best domestic talent which currently competes in Europe and Australia. They will be joined by a host of international riders who will all be looking to claim the famous jerseys in Malaysia’s own version of the Tour de France.
The race is an endurance event set over ten stages around Malaysia, starting in Dataran Helang and culminating in Kuala Lumpur from 3rd January to 1st February 2011. With more than 1300 kilometres, and with ten stages this year instead of the previous seven, riders will have to be in peak physical condition.
Along the course contestants will be racing for jerseys at certain stages such as the gruelling hill climbs at stages four and five which see riders ascending up Cameron and Genting Highlands.
The Malaysian teams, more competitive over the flat sections, will be looking to gain ground over the other stages which remain relatively level. Spectators using Langkawi hotels can also watch out for the national road champion, Adiq Husaini Othman who is sure to be popular with the crowds.
Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: "Hundreds of spectators will be turning up for the event in Langkawi. Hotels rooms will be in much shorter supply as a result so visitors should book places early to avoid disappointment."
