Held on the 28th and 29th May 2011 in the Kaisaniemi Park and Railway Square in the centre of Helsinki, the festival includes theatre, dance, music, and a circus in a fun-packed celebration of multiculturalism and global tolerance.
Nearly 300 global development organisations representing NGOs, museums and international businesses come together to stimulate new ways of thinking about global issues that affect everyday life.
The World Village Festival has been held annually since 1995 and is completely free to attend during the daytime, although there is a charge for the Saturday and Sunday clubs. This year it will include six stages set in a number of themed villages, and the NGOs will be housed in a Market of Possibilities tent.
The venue is best accessed by public transport, as there will be few parking facilities.
In a fast-changing world where cultures are increasingly mixing and interacting with one another, the World Village Festival celebrates the increasing diversity of our cities. Come here to meet people from a wide range of cultural and racial backgrounds and to see how you can make a difference in environmental issues that affect us all.
Stay at hotel Helsinki Airport accommodation and be within easy reach of this major cultural event that grew out of the civil society events of the 1980s and is now one of the biggest celebrations of diversity in Europe.
