The London Bombings on the 7th of July 2005 killed 52 people, as well as the four suicide bombers, and injured around 700 more.
Three bombs went off on that fateful morning as people made their way to work during the morning rush hour. Bombs exploded on underground trains just outside Liverpool Street and Edgware Road stations, and on another travelling between King's Cross and Russell Square. Around an hour later another bomb exploded on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square, not far from King's Cross station.
This day changed the lives of countless individuals and the mindset of many people around the world. In London there was a new tension in the air and the Metropolitan Police dramatically increased its presence on the capital's streets. However, Londoners were defiant that the bombings would not change them and they would not bow to the terrorists’ tactics.
S.A.S. members Mega and Mayhem have come together with members of the UK hip hop fraternity to record the track ‘Missing You’ - a moving homage to those who lost their lives on 7/7/2005. Mega explained why they came together; "Basically our boy was on the train and it affected us all. It affected the whole city, the whole country!" Mayhem continued, "It was a wake up call, it made us realise that terrorism can happen anywhere and it doesn’t discriminate about your religion or the colour of your skin."
The track features the reminiscences of Wale Akerele who was on the first carriage of the Kings Cross train and lucky enough to survive, unlike many others who were on the same train. The track emphasises how an event like this makes us all realise how precious life really is through the emotive raps of S.A.S members Mega and Mayhem, with MCs Baby Blu, Bigz, Ill Millz and Young Pro.
Mega feels that they have a duty to let people know about their experiences and raise money for the cause; "As rappers we have a responsibility to say something that means something to our fans, we want them to understand it’s a serious issue. People don’t usually link us to rapping about things like this but we think people need to speak about it and not sit back."
All money raised from this track will go to the
London Bombing Relief Charitable Fund.
