September sees the launch of the golfing world's latest novel. 'The Morris Men' is a quite extraordinary mystery story which will undoubtedly appeal to a broad readership.

The author, Stephen E Mitchell explains.

'The Morris Men' novel is a compelling mystery with a nostalgic golfing connection, but written in a style that will appeal to golfers and non-golfers alike - a good old fashioned yarn for all mystery story lovers.

The outline premise for 'The Morris Men' was spawned from reading an old article from the 1920's, its title I cannot remember, but it ran along the lines of - 'Is a golfer a gentleman?' It centred, I recall, on a personal dispute that started on the golf course and ended up in the law courts. Coupling this account with a professional interest of my own in contract law, a storyline for 'The Morris Men' was gradually conceived.

The end result is a potent blend of intrigue, suspense, nostalgia and contractual ramifications in the present. The early protagonists have inadvertently 'bequeathed' to their privileged great grandchildren, an alarming and potentially ruinous contractual legacy that brings out the best, and worst, in two close neighbours. The chosen preamble for The Morris Men - 'For what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose the last hole?' - is therefore quite fitting.
