The CDM has been set up to oversee and approve emission reduction projects for developing countries to earn emission reduction credits, which can then be traded and sold to industrialized countries to meet their carbon reduction targets as part of the Kyoto Protocol. Each of these credits is equal to one tonne of CO2.

This model allows sustainable development in these developing countries as well as earning them carbon reduction credits. It is also beneficial to developing countries as they are afforded flexibility in meeting their own carbon reduction targets.

The CDM provides the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Adaptation Fund with its main source of income; this fund was set up to assist developing countries that are particularly susceptible to climate change and are parties to the Kyoto Protocol.

The purpose of the Methodologies Panel is to develop recommendations for the Executive Board on the correct baseline methodologies and monitoring plans for various CDM projects. The event will be chaired by Mr. Phillip Gwage and he will be assisted by Vice Chairman Mr. Lex de Jonge.

For delegates to the conference who are looking for the accommodation, hotel Bonn offers wide variety of accommodation options, and there is something to suit all budgets and requirements.
