Hanks has more than 30 years experience in the architectural industry and holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, La.
Hanks has participated in planning and surveys for a number of projects in Washington, D.C. and across the country, including the National Zoo, the Newseum and several renovations at the Smithsonian Institute. In North Carolina, he has served as an architectural consultant for projects at East Carolina University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, among others. Hanks is a member of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) as well as the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a group that works to pass legislation and implement policies to preserve and improve historic sites. A native of Louisiana, he resides in Raleigh with his wife.
