A comprehensive new film and music collection has been established at Sean Lemass Library in Shannon, County Clare.
Launching the new collection in Shannon, Mayor of Clare Cllr. Patricia McCarthy said, "Film and music collections are being established at Library branches in Shannon and Scariff as a result of the hugely successful collection at the De Valera Library in Ennis."
"Library members from throughout the county can use their cards to borrow DVDs and CDs from the collection and return them to their nearest branch. The new branch library due to open in Scariff later this year will also contain a film collection", she explained.
Clare Country Library's film collection has recorded almost 10,000 loans since it was introduced to the stock of the DeValera Library in May 2006. Dr. Harvey O'Brien - a native of Kilrush and a lecturer at the Centre for Film Studies at UCD - assisted in the setting up of the collection.
According to Ms. Stafford, Executive Librarian, Clare County Library, "The film collection includes classics such as Hitchcock's The Birds, foreign films such as Habla Con Ella and comedies such as A Fish Called Wanda. Each adult member of the library may borrow one DVD as part of their overall allocation of 8 items."
She added, "The genres covered in the music collection are Classical, Blues and Jazz, Traditional, World, Country and Popular, and should provide something to suit everyone's taste."
Meanwhile, Clare County Library has confirmed that the foreign fiction service has been extended to Shannon Library with Polish language books now available for adults. Children's picture books are also available in both Polish and Russian.
