Shaanti continue their relentless assault on the music fraternity come October, 31st with the release of their new album ‘Fused Rocking Beats Vol. 1’.

Shaanti is a veritable musical institution, and one of the most prolific trendsetters of recent times. Having offered us award winning club nights with artists from all over the globe, they strike out on their own singular path with the release of ‘Fused Rocking Beats Vol. 1’, a compilation championing some of the most assertive and uncompromising music in the Asian and world dance music scene.

Compiled by Manga and Sharnita K Athwal, and released via their imprint label Shaanti Play Records, ‘Fused Rocking Beats Vol. 1’ bears witness to the diversity and technical sophistication of futuristic dance music currently being produced by contemporary musicians of today.

With 14 exclusive and unreleased tracks from a multitude of artists and producers such as The Kalyan feat. Lembher Hussainpuri, Stereo Nation, Tigerstyle, Azian Empire Prithpal Sirjeet feat. JC001, The Nextmen feat. Dynamite MC, Sonik Gurus, Superjones feat. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Cosmic Rocker, Oddme, and many more - this will prove to be another album that is essential for your collection.

On the opening track you will find The Kalyan’s ‘Disco Warrior’ kick it off, with the unmistakable vocal tones of Bhangra sensation Lembher Hussainpuri who leads the way with a desi-rocking anthem. In stark contrast, the indomitable Nextmen produce another high-energy classic, which has an underlying beat that is pure Hip-Hop, with eastern vibes thrown in with compadre Dynamite MC on ‘Spin it Round’ (Superjones Remix).

The genius that is Prithpal Sirjeet delivers a sound that can be characterised as a sophisticated mass of electro stabs, classy breaks and fat bottomed basslines flex with Banni Sandhu in ‘Jalee License’. The heat is turned up on ‘Aaja’ by Stereo Nation which combines elements of house riffs with slap bass grooves and a jazzy tumbi loop, while different angles on Sumeet’s Hot Curry Remix of ‘Agony’ creates an attention-grabbing sound with thick beats and sweet fusion fullness all beautifully arranged on a dubbier R&B backdrop.

More Hip-Hop passions proceed as Azian Empire and Tigerstyle takes to the centre stage to deliver ‘Karmasutra’. Filled with Spanish guitars and Indian percussions brushed-up with a contemporary sheen. Break Beat is next on the list as the brash electro injection of Sonik Guru’s ‘Gypsy’ grips listeners over a funky rolling rhythm, followed by Superjones who deliver an electronic dance track on ‘Rest in Beats’ featuring dark rolling loops, liquid synth’s and explosive Qawwalis provided by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

The album now takes a turn towards a darker and clubbier vibe when Cosmic Rocker’s ‘Electric Vindaloo’ drops a body-jerking killa beat inter-spun with Bollywood fuelled vocals, frantic tribal drums and runaway baja’s that peaks out the mix into a fanatical climax. Shabz’s ‘Word of Truth’ feat. Nas T on the other hand takes listeners on a harder and tougher ride as Hip-Hop, Rock and Desi vibes beef-up each other against a thrashing dhol, nearing the end in a slightly different twist.

Next up is ‘Flip the Skript’ by Prithpal Sirjeet, a spine-chilling fusion underground cut. Indian raags and percussions zigzag out of JCOO1’s rap-tinged lyrics, which are so thick in texture that you will hold your breath to prepare yourself for another pendulum masterpiece. Cinematic rhymes oozes into soulful mantras which blend effortlessly into a blissful state, delivered by Debipriya Das, one of the most unique voices we’ve heard over the last decade of Asian dance music. The angelic audio doesn’t last long as Oddme’s ‘Tum Ka Ho’ speeds up the pace with a banging Bhangra House mix that lets loose a tightened up electro bassline, with a generous use of the many and varied original elements, including the main vocal sample.

DJ-V hijacks the beats and triggers a riotous moment with ‘Bloodshot’. This heady combination of jacking drum and bass, jumps in and out of Arabesk samples which relentlessly beacons the track. Eastern melodies creep beneath steady synthlines and delicate basslines that is made harder as the track comes to its break. The album closes with another indefinable genre-beat with Oddme. His original mix of ‘2050 India’ compounds massive shots of tabla driven breaks within a chunky mix of bass that gradually lifts into an eerie interlude.

Boasting an impressive selection of renowned DJ’s, artists and producers and an equally impressive catalogue of dance floor rocking tracks, the relative youth of Shaaati Play Records makes their pivotal position in the industry all the more staggering. Considering the label’s influence, ‘Fused Rocking Beats Vol. 1’ bears grand implications for the future of Asian dance and global music as a genre.
