DATELINE: BRAINTREE AND CAPE COD, MA... Dr. R. George Eli, PhD, a native of Singapore and resident of Martha’s Vineyard, has recently joined South Shore Elder Services as Home Care Program Supervisor. Headquartered in Braintree, Mass., South Shore Elder Services is a private, non-profit agency that provides seniors and caregivers in the South Shore area with valuable resources and services.

As Home Care Program Supervisor, Dr. Eli supervises South Shore Elder Services’ case managers. He holds a PhD from Duke University and is also a Protestant Minister and a published author. Dr. Eli moved from his home country of Singapore twenty years ago, where he was ordained, and currently also serves as Minister of Lambert’s Cove Christian Church on Martha’s Vineyard.

Dr. Eli’s career in elder services began as a part time community service work effort. Serving as a minister on the Vineyard as of 1994, Dr. Eli found a growing population of needy and lonely elders. Joining the local staff of Elder Services of Cape Cod & The Islands, he worked to expand their existing home care program on the Vineyard so that the number of clients receiving services doubled to more than 150, that number being under his own case management. Having years of elder care experience under his belt and an ongoing fluency in several East Asian languages, Dr. Eli was invited to work at South Shore Elder Services.

"I’m looking forward to being part of expanding the help South Shore Elder Services currently provides onto a far larger scale. The Agency has wide scope, impressive capability, and significant opportunities for growth, particularly within the Asian population in this area," noted Dr. Eli.

Dr. Eli currently resides on Martha’s Vineyard with his wife Karen, who runs her own business on the island. They have two sons, Jhaelen, who is in his third year at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and Justin, who is in his third year of business studies at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. The Eli’s are also in the process of buying a home in Abington, close to the South Shore Elder Services location.

As one of 27 Aging Services Access Points in Massachusetts, South Shore Elder Services coordinates and provides a wide range of services to elders and caregivers throughout Braintree, Cohasset, Hingham, Holbrook, Hull, Milton, Norwell, Quincy, Randolph,
