Donors Double at Kanoo’s Blood Donation Drive

Dubai, October 25, 2005: The Kanoo Group recently organised a blood donation drive in coordination with Al Wasl Hospital at their main office in Bur Dubai. The fifth blood donation drive, and the second this year, received a tremendous response from the employees of the large business conglomerate with the number of donors doubling over their previous blood donation campaign held earlier this year.
"Donating blood is a noble way to serve humanity. On an average every year, Dubai alone requires more than 21,000 units of blood. About 70% of the blood collected by our blood donation centre goes to the thalassaemia centre alone. We are happy that The Kanoo Group has taken the lead in organising blood donation drives for their employees twice a year since 2003. Such initiatives by corporates like The Kanoo Group help us to collect blood for patients suffering from thalassaemia, accidents, cancer and other ailments. We would like to invite more corporates to come forward and support such campaigns," says an official from the blood donation centre at Al Wasl Hospital.
Al Wasl Hospital officials provided full medical equipment, information and medical tests which made the blood donation campaign a great success. The Kanoo Group’s employees and guests voluntarily came forward to donate in large numbers, resulting in the current blood donation drive witnessing the highest turnout since Kanoo began their Blood Donation drive in 2003.
"Statistics reveal that less than five percent of eligible adults donate blood. Voluntary blood donation helps to meet the ever-increasing demand of blood for patients," explains Mishal Kanoo, Deputy Chairman of The Kanoo Group. "The blood donation campaign is one of our many initiatives towards corporate social responsibility. We are proud that our staff has, time and again, come forward to volunteer their services towards social and environmental causes," Mr. Kanoo adds.
