Dubai to host world’s richest shooting tournament

Dubai, October 2005: Further enhancing Dubai’s position as a top global sporting destination, Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Hasher Al Maktoum, Olympic gold medallist, recently announced an international skeet shooting tournament with the richest purse, to be held in Dubai. The Dubai tournament is sponsored by the ETA-Ascon Group of Companies.

Speaking at a press briefing held in Dubai, at the Emirates Towers Hotel, Sheikh Ahmed said that dates of the tournament would be announced at a later time, but would probably be around January 2007. Also present at the press briefing was Mr Ahmed Al Raisi, President of the UAE Shooting Federation.

"A lot of hard work has gone behind my desire to excel in the sport of shooting, but I do not wish to rest on my laurels. I wish to work with all those interested and concerned to now, put Dubai and the UAE on the world map when it comes to the sport of shooting," says Sheikh Ahmed. "This is why we are offering the richest purse for a shooting tournament ever and, I am delighted that Mr. Ahmed Al Ghurair and Mr. Ahmed Salahuddin, Directors of the the ETA-Ascon Group of Companies, have already committed Dhs1million to make this possible," he adds.

Further to the tournament, we will be involved with Sheikh Ahmed in developing young talent and the popularity of the sport of shooting in the UAE." says Ahmed Al Ghurair.
