Video training on munitions, accommodation and discrimination issues have been won by defence specialist, AdVal Learning Solutions (ALS).
The Aylesbury-based bespoke training provider has been contracted to bring up to date a high profile series of video dramatisations dealing with issues of bullying, sexual orientation, sexual discrimination and cultural diversity. ALS produced the first video dramatisations used by the Army for Equality & Diversity training three years ago.
"Our approach will again be to take real stories of unfair treatment and craft scenarios around them that are as accurate and closely targeted as possible to the issues that military personnel face on the ground," says ALS creative director, Richard Bunning.
Further productions include an overview video on the Abrasive Cutting Equipment (ACE) bomb disposal project, commissioned by AB Precision Ltd for the MoD. The video was shot in Cambridgeshire with the, Royal Engineers unit responsible for disposing of mainly air dropped weapons, the video is centred around disposal of a real World War II Luftwaffe bomb showing how ACE is operated.
ALS video has been commissioned by the MoD to show how its new Defence Explosives, Munitions and Search School (DEMSS) will work.
DEMSS brings together three existing Schools within the MoD Defence College of Logistics: the Army School of Ammunition, the Defence Explosive Ordnance Disposal School, and the National Search Centre, a joint MoD and police establishment.
The ALS production also features a wide range of explosive training tasks, training on search techniques, ammunition storage and preparation, disposal of battlefield munitions, and handling of improvised explosive devices, (terrorist bombs etc).
QUINTEC, the specialist military training company working for KBR, has commissioned ALS to produce a DVD providing three types of training on Portable Deployable Accommodation (PDA). PDA is a large, complete, portable system of tented type accommodation, featuring high grade living areas, climate control, ablutions, catering and workshops, complete with power generation, water purification and sanitation processing, carried into position in 90 ISO containers.
The ALS video looks at technical issues confronted by engineering supervisors responsible for building and tearing down PDA encampments; instructs local workforce on tent assembly; and provides end-users with an induction and safety guide to living and working in the PDA environment.
These four defence film contracts join a whole host of other military projects completed by ALS including G3 systems, BAE Systems Land Systems, Fixed Fire Fighting Systems on Warships and Information Warfare delivered to the Navy and Ground Defence Training delivered to the RAF.
"We have seen quite a sharp growth in demand for the video team from existing and new customers," confirms managing director, Peter Bonfield. "Costs have fallen with the advent of digital production technology and the ease of use of DVD or broadband delivery.
"We are seeing a renaissance of the use of video in training as an important ingredient in getting the training blend right," he adds.
