Opus Energy, a leading independent supplier of electricity to UK businesses, has joined forces with Cornwall Light and Power to secure the entire output of Renewable Obligation Certificates from the High Sharpley wind farm and Goonhilly Wind Farm on the Lizard. These certificates are purchased as part of Opus Energy’s renewable obligation and provide support and funding for the development of renewable energy..

Cornwall Light & Power recently announced details of a £20 million project to 'repower' the Goonhilly Wind Farm by replacing the 14 existing wind turbines with just six, increasing the amount of emissions-free electricity produced by nearly four times.

The purchase of Renewable Certificates is part of Opus Energy’s Environmental Commitment, which includes a pledge to secure cleaner sources of power for its customers. Last year, between April 2006 and March 2007, 66% of the energy supplied by Opus Energy to its customers came from cleaner, low-carbon sources – 47% from renewable generators and 19% from cleaner Combined Heat and Power (CHP) produced by CHP generators.

Charlie Crossley Cooke, Managing Director of Opus Energy said, "By working in partnership with independent renewable energy providers, we are supporting the development of renewable generation.".

"Our customers are able to benefit directly from our commitment to greener energy, without the need for multiple, often confusing tariffs."
