Colour cosmetics is a category that has been little affected by the financial crisis, posting positive value and volume growth throughout the review period. Danish women are reluctant to downgrade their favourite brands and "settle for" an inexpensive brand they perceive to be of a lower quality. For this reason, private label products are not popular in this category, accounting for less than 1% of value sales in 2013.

Competitive Landscape

The colour cosmetics category is led by two companies: leader L'Oreal Danmark A/S and E Saether A/S. In 2013, the two companies had in combined value share of 48%, representing a slight increase on the year before. L'Oreal Danmark's L'Oreal Paris brand and E Saether's Max Factor brand are ranked first and second in Denmark. These are established international brands which for many years have been very popular in Denmark and which are marketed often on television and online.
