About Richard Petty:
The King of stock car racing, Richard Petty retired from NASCAR competition after the 1992 season. During his storied career, he won 200 Winston Cup races, seven Winston Cup championships and seven Daytona 500's. Petty remains a fixture on the sports circuit, owning the familiar number 43 Cheerios Dodge team. Petty served for 16 years as Randolph County Commissioner where he focused on improving schools and law enforcement. In 1996, he was the Republican nominee for North Carolina Secretary of State. He provides funding to organizations such as Hospice of Randolph County, Pfeiffer University, Mt. Shepherd Retreat Center, Level Cross United Methodist Church and Victory Junction Gang Camp. In 2008, Petty was honored with the North Carolina Motor Sports Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his achievements both on and off the track.
