Competitive Landscape

Imperial Tobacco Netherlands remained the largest manufacturer in smoking tobacco in 2014, accounting for 35% of total volume sales. The manufacturer distributes some of the top selling RYO tobacco brands and benefits from the long established presence of brand such as Drum and Van Nelle. The company’s value share has been under pressure in recent years due to increased levels of competition from economy brands and private label as some Dutch smokers are shifting towards cheaper brands in face of rising unit prices.

RYO tobacco is expected to post further volume declines over the forecast period, with demand affected by the stronger pressure to curb tobacco consumption, with further excise duties likely to be applied, as with cigarettes.
