The second quarter of 2015 saw continued improvement in the Swedish economy; however this did not translate into a large rise in household consumption. Restaurants and cafes experienced further increases in the number of customers served, driving hot and soft drinks sales, but the positive impact for soft drinks was negated by gloomy weather conditions, leading to a 3.3% retraction compared to last year. Alcohol also experienced a downturn, however not as much as was expected considering the 9% rise on beer, wine and cider. Low calorie drinks' long-running positive trend came to an end, however this was most likely due to an innovation in stevia, which Canadean do not define as low calorie products.
Key Findings
* All commercial beverages contracted over 1% compared to last year
* Early Easter and gloomy weather in 2015 hits soft drinks demand
* Economy performing better than expected
* Alcohol tax impact muted
* Low calorie drinks slip into red
