BMI View : Competition in Bahrain ' s mobile and wireline telecoms market is healthy as it shows measurable benefits for users and still generates the second most attractive returns for operators in the MENA region. Mobile prices in Bahrain have declined by up to 55% between 2010 and 2015, according to a study released by Bahrain's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in December 2015.
The retail price benchmark study revealed that fixed broadband prices in the country saw a decline of up to 85% in the reported period. The price of residential ADSL broadband with speeds of up to 10Mbps decreased to BHD20 (USD53) in 2015 from BHD80 (USD212) in 2010, while data allowance increased from 50GB in 2010 to 150GB in 2015. The report noted that users in Bahrain have benefited from a wide range of retail telecom services and more data at lower rates between 2010 and 2015.

The launch of LTE has boosted the 3G/4G market, which reached 1.8mn subscriptions in Q1 2015. About 17% of all mobile broadband subscriptions were dedicated data subscriptions at the time.
Fixed wireline continues to decline as it remains affected by mobile substitution. Over Q1 2015, fixed broadband increased to about 180,000 subscriptions, while fixed voice dropped to 237,000 from 174,000 and 242,000 respectively. Bundles are included in these figures.
