New Study: Czech Republic Telecommunications Report Q2 2016

The Czech mobile market is highly saturated with a high degree of penetration. We do not estimate the subscriber numbers to increase markedly over the course of our forecast period. Nevertheless, we believe that the high levels of competit i on among the three telecoms companies have provided fresh impetus for organic growth in high data services. The operators have to deepen their customer bases. Data services growth, primarily fuelled by the heavy investment into 3G and now 4G and LTE-Advanced services will be the primary driver of growth during the course of our forecast period from 2016 to 2020. Furthermore, all three operators will continue to invest significantly over the next two years to improve their LTE infrastructure in the country and to prepare for the adoption of 5G technology from 2017/18 onwards. Uptake of new services, such as smartphones, LTE, fibre or convergence, will happen in stages across the country.

The mobile market added 20,000 subscriptions to reach 14.444mn in Q315, the latest data available.

We have revised our 3G and 4G figures for the country and are anticipating much stronger growth over the next few years based on the heavy investments made by all three telecoms operators. We expect the number of 3G and 4G subscribers to reach 6.3mn by the end of 2016, a figure we see jumping to over 9.8mn by the end of 2020.
