The trend towards healthier and more balanced lifestyles helped the category to escape an even sharper volume decline. Sportswear in Russia grew by 12% in current value terms in 2015 to approach sales of RUB354 billion.

adidas OOO ranked first in sportswear in Russia in 2015 with a 17% value share. adidas is a pioneering brand in Russian sportswear, boasting strong consumer loyalty through active sponsorship of various sporting events. It was one of the technical sponsors of the Russian football league for the 2015/2016 season. adidas is also one of the sponsors of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Russia. Nike OOO, which ranked third with a 6% share, was also active in 2015. Nike sought to leverage consumer interest in large-scale sporting events to consolidate its already strong brand awareness. Nike was also one of the technical sponsors of local football teams, such as Anzhi Makhachkala, Dynamo Moscow and Spartak Moscow.
