Sales of in-car entertainment products declined further in the Netherlands during 2015, a continuation of trends in evidence throughout the second half of the review period. More Dutch people are using smartphones and mobile devices to listen to music through streaming and to gain access to navigation services. The penetration of smartphones in the Netherlands is among the highest in the world in and continued to rise during 2015. Many Dutch people see no need to purchase separate in-car entertainment products given the fact that smartphones provide convenient and fast internet connections. In 2015, an estimated 40% of Dutch mobile phones had 4G technology, assuring fast connectivity and rapid download speeds.
Competitive Landscape
TomTom International BV maintained the clear lead in in-car navigation in 2015 with a 59% volume share. While the manufacturer experienced a decline in volume sales, it focused on introducing new products and software applications for smartphones to meet demand among people using navigation apps on their mobile phones. TomTom introduced new extensions for its in-car navigation product line in 2015, including TomTom Go 510, 610, 5100 and 6100, all of which incorporate interactive screens and an easier-to-use interface with a choice of screen sizes, either five inches or six inches. These new products feature the company’s Lifetime World Maps and Lifetime Speed Cameras features, which include road maps across the entire world without additional cost and speed camera signals along roads and motorways. TomTom also introduced a new website and application for smartphones and tablets called My Drive that provides instant and updated traffic information, enabling users to plan their routes before setting off in their cars.

Industry Prospects
In-car entertainment is expected to record substantial in volume and value declines at constant 2015 terms over the forecast period. As occurred during the second half of the review period, the rapid penetration of smartphones and the rising popularity of streaming for entertainment are set to continue compromising demand for in-car entertainment products in the Netherlands. All in-car entertainment categories are expected to post negative volume and value growth over the forecast period as more Dutch consumers are expected to listen to music that has been downloaded or streamed onto their smartphones whilst travelling in their cars due to the greater convenience and lower cost of doing so.
