In soft drinks market, packaged water was one of the biggest winners in volume growth, with energy drinks and iced/rtd tea drinks also seeing growth. Alcoholic drinks remained stable during Q1-16 with a small positive slant as beer and cider have the most positive volume growth, whereas the other categories saw losses. Dairy drinks remained quite stable in Q1-16 as the losses in white, fermented and evaporated milk were compensated for by growths in flavoured milk, GNRS alternative drinks and drinking yogurt. Hot beverages remained quite stable in Q1-16. As the quarter was quite cold, hot beverages saw an extra small push in volumes.

* Packaged water saw a good growth in Q1-16, as the category fits well within the current consumer trends of wanting more natural products and to consume less sugar.
* The consumption of alcohol-free beers, beer mixes and special beers has grown well. The Dutch Beer Association has just released some of their initial figures for 2015 showing alcohol-free beers segment is growing.
* The increasing costs of milk is likely to be pushed onto the consumers, which will create a strange situation of international farm gate prices lowering and yet supermarket prices rising.
* Growth continued in value rather than volume as hot coffee in particular becomes more sophisticated with flavours, roasts, and brewing types: from pads, pods, cups, and self-grinding home equipment.
