Austin-based Austin Winds, a custom designer and manufacturer of professional-quality trumpets and flugelhorns, announces a first-of-its-kind partnership in support of the jazz program at James Bowie High School in the Austin Independent School District.
"We are proud to give back to Austin’s music community and the community at large through this agreement," says Doug Mains, Austin Winds founder and owner. "It’s a privilege to help expand an already successful jazz program at Bowie and give students the best educational experience possible."
Austin Winds artists and others from corporate partners will supplement the teaching of Bowie Directors Miguel Perez and Jennifer Hanford. This additional teaching will take multiple forms, including small workshops in and outside of class, joint public performances with Bowie Jazz bands, and individual skill development sessions. These additional opportunities will help provide students with deeper practice and study of skills such as improvisation and theory.
"We’re thrilled to partner with Austin Winds to make our jazz program a richer and more rewarding experience for our students," says Bowie Band Assistant Director Miguel Perez. "I’m not aware of another formal arrangement like this one in the greater Austin area. We believe this can be an effective model for future corporate partnerships that result in expanding educational opportunities for our young musicians."
