The Clare T.D. said, ‘the first payments have been made this week and my colleague Minister for Agriculture, Brendan Smith T.D. has informed me that the majority of eligible farmers will be paid within a matter of days. These payments are worth some EUR15,196,354 and represent a very significant injection in the rural economy’.
Acknowledging that some cases could not yet be cleared for payment, Minister of State Killeen said, ‘The Department will be making every effort to clear the outstanding cases as quickly as possible. I would urge farmers to reply quickly to any correspondence from the Department in relation to any DAS problems.’
He stated that the Department had established a dedicated lo-call number to deal with all such issues. Clare farmers should contact 1890 252 235.
Meanwhile, Minister of State Killeen reminded Clare farmers of the new EU requirement that all payments made with effect from 16 October 2008 must be made via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) directly to their own bank, building society, credit union or post office accounts.
